Description

Who settled America? How did they build their "nations"? And why does that still matter so much today?

And where are your roots? Author Colin Woodward argues that they almost certainly link you to one of eleven distinct “nation-states” whose cultural dynamics inform everything from voting patterns and social values to beliefs about the role of government.

See if this list makes you want to learn more: Yankeedom, New Netherlands, the Midlands, Tidewater, Greater Appalachia, Deep South, El Norte, the Left Coast, the Far West, New France, and First Nation.

We’ll explore each one and see why Woodward’s thesis has attracted adherents from both sides of the U.S. political spectrum.
