Summer Spotlights (Series #3): "Cultural Evolutionary Barometers"
Saturdays, 1:00-2:30 Central
A three-week series of single presentations taking three approaches to the fascinating realities of Cultural Evolution.
• First, in "Sea Change: A Primer on Cultural Evolution," we will take a guided tour of Jim's acclaimed idea of the dynamics of rare but sweeping periods of progressive cultural values-shift. Despite the awful specters of white nationalism, science denial, and Trumpism, are we even now in the midst of a powerful and progressive evolutionary "sea change" in human history?
• Next, "Now or Never: A Foreign Policy for the Climate," we'll turn to most vital political and cultural shift of all, addressing the devastating realities of anthropogenic (human driven) global climate change. In the face of record high temperatures, horrific wildfires, soil-destroying droughts, and raging floods, what are our chances of re-envisioning our planetary future?
• Finally, "In Five Very Good Reasons for Global Hope," we'll explore some persuasive arguments that ours is indeed a dramatically evolutionary time. Our topics include: non-zero understanding, the emerging global consensus, the next generation, the erosion of patriarchy, and the global commons.
